Eric Clapton Videos

Eric Clapton (1945), is a English blues-rock guitarist, songwriter, singer and composer. He is one of the most successful musicians and guitar players of all-time. Clapton's style has varied throughout his career, but it has always remained based on blues. In his phases we can find from blues-rock (with John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers and The Yardbirds), to psychedelic rock ( Cream), also playing great musics from Delta blues (Me and Mr. Johnson) to reggae (Bob Marley's "I Shot the Sheriff") and pop ("Change the World"). Clapton was also very succesful with his group on 70´s Derek and the Dominos and his hit song "Layla".

It don't get more classic than this. "Concert For Bangladesh" presented by George Harrison and Ravi Shankar for relief and aid to the starving people of Bangladesh. A list of people on stage for this concert is remarkable. George Harrison, Ringo Star (former Beatles), Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Leon Russell, Billy Preston, Klaus Voorman, Carl Radle, Don Preston, Jim Keltner, Jesse Ed Davis, Bad Finger...and none of them took a penny. Madison Square Garden 1971 - Eric Clapton's Theme song :) "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Clapton originally played the lead guitar solo on the Beatles White album version of this song as well.

  This is my attempt at the Derek & The Dominos / Eric Clapton song Layla, the ending piano part. I love that song. It was written by Eric about George Harrison's wife, while he was still married (kind of strange.) They divorced and Eric married her, and I believe they divorced later on. Anyway, I'm not a big fan of the unplugged version because it lacks this part.

  Eric Clapton knows whatsup when it comes to this blues stuff. A lot of rock musicians, in fact, that came over from England (during the 'British Invasion' and otherwise) really love American folk music (and the blues in particular). I'm no musicologist, but myself, as well as many others would probably have to say Clapton is the 'cream' of the crop though, when it comes to understanding what these guys were doing stylistically, incorporating it into his own music, evolving the style, etc. - Robert Johnson, probably Clapton's and Muddy Waters favorite bluesman, was a really sweet dude. He actually grew up learning from Son House, Charley Patton, and Willie Brown. Sadly, as a teen he got married and his wife died in childbirth, along with their child... He continued to try and learn from the three delta bluesmen -- following them around and watching them perform - but b/c he was still a novice, he often became the object of ridicule when House, Patton, and Brown were drunk and feeling mean, so he abruptly left the area (which was Robinsonville, Mississippi). As the story goes, he returned a couple months later (some say a year), playing with dazzling technique. Years later, several of Johnson's relatives told blues researcher Mack McCormick that Robert had sold his soul to the Devil for his talent, and claimed they knew the exact backcountry crossroad where the deal was made... So Johnson returned, and it's been said delta guitarists (even those he first learned from) would watch with 'unabashed, open-mouthed wonder.' From this point in his life on, Johnson moved from woman to woman, town to town, trusting no one and taking on few musical associates... One musician who was able to stick with Johnson for a while as he 'rambled' around the country, was Johnny Shines. One story I really like about Robert Johnson was the one Shines told interviewer Pete Welding, "we was staying in West Memphis at a place called John Hunt's, and this place burnt down and burnt our guitars up. I didn't know that Robert knew anything about the harmonica at all, but he come up with this old harmonica. We were out on Highway 61, and he started blowing this harmonica and slapping his hands -- patting his hands, blowing and singing -- and in a few minutes, the whole highway was almost blocked off with cars, people pitching us nickels, dimes, quarters. He'd sing, I would sing, and when we got to Steels, Missouri, we bought ourselves little guitars. We had enough money to buy guitars with! And truthfully speaking, we didn't have no money when we started out." Apparently no matter how much traveling Johnson did he was always looking 'sharp.' Shines said they'd be playing on dusty streets or inside dirty places, and as he'd catch his breath and see himself 'looking like a dog, there'd be Robert, all clean as can be, looking like he's just stepping out of church.' Honeyboy Edwards -- a delta blues musician -- recalls seeing Robert Johnson, in 1937, on a dirt road in Greenwood: "He was standing there playing on the street, and this lady, walked up to him and said, 'Can you play Terraplane Blues?' Cause that Johnson record had just come out, but she didn't know who she was talkin' to. He said [and here Edwards assumed a tone of dignified, inviolable cool], 'Miss, that's my number,' like 'that'... and she said 'I don't believe you.' He said, 'Give me fifteen cents and I'll play it.' And he played that 'Terraplane,' man, he wore it out." Yea - stuff like that just doesn't happen anymore... I mean, seriously -- 'Miss, that's my number.' This weeks first song is Eric Clapton playing Johnson's 'Walkin' Blues' on his 'Unplugged' album... Clapton actually even has an album, 'Me and Mr. Johnson,' a tribute album to the legendary bluesman. The second song is Robert Johnson's, "Sweet Home Chicago," recorded by Robert Johnson in 1936.

  Eric Patrick Clapton (The Green (Ripley, Surrey), 30 maart 1945) is een Britse gitarist, componist en zanger van blues-, rock- en popmuziek.Clapton werd op 30 maart 1945 in The Green, Ripley, Surrey (Engeland) geboren als zoon van de 16-jarige Patricia Molly Clapton en de 24-jarige Canadese militair Edward Walter Fryer die in Engeland was gelegerd. Fryer keerde nog voor Clapton's geboorte terug naar zijn echtgenote in Canada. Omdat zijn moeder nog erg jong was, werd Clapton opgevoed door zijn grootmoeder Rose, en haar echtgenoot Jack Clapp, die de stiefvader was van Clapton's moeder. Zijn moeder die doorging voor zijn zuster, trouwde met de Canadese militair Frank McDonald, en volgde haar echtgenoot naar Duitsland en later naar Canada. .................................................... Mark Knopfler (Glasgow, 12 augustus 1949) is een Britse zanger en gitarist van Joodse komaf, vooral bekend als frontman van de Britse popgroep Dire Straits. Zijn beroemde gitaarspel lijkt een kruising tussen de zweverige Shadowssound van Hank B. Marvin en het fingerpickingspel van J.J. Cale. De lage neusstem van Knopfler roept herinneringen op aan Bob Dylan en eveneens J.J. Cale. De Dire Straits behaalden meteen groot succes met hun debuutalbum Dire Straits. Hierop staat onder meer het bekende "Sultans of Swing", wat hun in 1977 hun eerste platencontract opleverde. In 1985 verscheen Brothers in Arms, een van de eerste volledig digitaal opgenomen platen. Het album is met 269 weken in de Nederlandse Album Top 100 het langst genoteerde album aller tijden. Naast zijn werk met Dire Straits bracht Knopfler een aantal soundtracks en later ook soloalbums uit. Daarnaast is hij een veelgevraagd sessie- en studiomuzikant. Hij schreef ook nummers voor andere artiesten waaronder "Private Dancer" voor Tina Turner en "I Think I Love You Too Much" voor de blinde bluesgitarist Jeff Healey. Hij werkte mee aan de albums Slow Train Coming en Infidels van Bob Dylan en trad op als producer voor onder andere Willy Deville, Aztec Camera en Randy Newman. Samen met Chet Atkins bracht hij een aantal albums uit waaronder Neck and Neck. In 2000 verscheen 'Sailing to Philadelphia' waarvan het titelnummer hem een kleine hit opleverde in verschillende landen.

  Cream - We're going wrong
  
  De Engelse band Cream werd in 1966 gevormd op initiatief van drummer Ginger Baker. De band zou de standaard zetten voor rockbands die bestonden uit een drummer, een bassist en een gitarist, zogenaamde powertrio's. Baker kende bassist Jack Bruce uit bands als de Graham Bond Organisation en de band van Alexis Korner. Bruce had enige tijd met Eric Clapton gespeeld in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. De beslissing om met elkaar een band te beginnen werd genomen na een jamsessie bij Baker thuis. Naar eigen zeggen vond ieder bandlid de andere twee leden de beste muzikanten die hij kende, bovendien waren ze niet tevreden over de bands waarin ze tot dan speelden. Voor Eric Clapton gold dat hij graag een goeie bluesgitarist, ala Buddy Guy, in een bluesband wilde zijn en daarvoor een goede ritmesectie zocht. Deze ambitie moest hij weldra bijstellen, omdat Jack Bruce en Ginger Baker sterke persoonlijkheden bleken te zijn en muzikaal zeer veel in de pap te brokkelen hadden. Het drietal koos de naam 'Cream' omdat ze, als ze dan toch een supergroep gingen oprichten, niet bescheiden hoefden te doen over hun pretenties: ze vonden zichzelf het neusje van de zalm, oftewel the Cream of the crop. Eric bleef de belangrijkste muzikant. Ook al zou de band zonder de composities van Jack Bruce wellicht niet die superstatus hebben veroverd. Het geluid van de band ontwikkelde zich snel. De gitaar van Clapton had al de scherpte die hij had ontwikkeld bij John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, maar zou zich verder ontwikkelen mede door de technologie. Er kwamen steeds zwaardere gitaarversterkers. Daarbij komt dat het podiumgeluid wel hard moest zijn. Zeker als opgetreden moest worden in grotere ruimtes. Er bestonden nog geen P.A. systemen, die het zaalgeluid voor hun rekening konden nemen. Ook de persoonlijkheden van de drie muzikanten zelf zorgden ervoor dat er steeds luider werd gespeeld. In een trio is het aandeel van elk van de drie muzikanten even belangrijk. Jack Bruce experimenteerde met het geluid van en type basgitaar. Toch bleef er controle over het geluid. De band besloot in 1968 uit elkaar te gaan. Clapton had daar op aangedrongen nadat hij een recensie had gelezen in het muziekblad Rolling Stone. De band werd daarin sterk bekritiseerd. Clapton trok zich de kritiek erg aan en zou later zeggen dat hij vond dat de band stil had gestaan in zijn ontwikkeling. Na een afscheidstournee door de VS traden ze nog eenmaal op in eigen land. Het afscheidsconcert in de Royal Albert Hall heeft een legendarische reputatie. Toen de band uit elkaar ging was Clapton 23 jaar oud, Bruce 25 en Baker 29. Eric Clapton en Ginger Baker vormden na Cream samen met Steve Winwood en Rick Grech de band Blind Faith. Op 2, 3, 5 en 6 mei 2005 kwam The Cream bij elkaar op een renie-concert in The Royal Albert Hall in Londen.

The guitar god muffs the lyrics (or at least the math) at one point ("2 and 2 is 4, baby; 4 and 2 is 8"), but his playing is as tasteful and assured as ever.
